Tenerife
Golf Costa Adeje
Just 5 kilometres from Playa de las Americas. The greens are generally large and there are a number of doglegs. The round begins with a long par five (510m) and bunkers wait to catch stray balls off the tee. The 2nd is short with a ravine to the right and a green formed on two levels makes it more difficult when the flag is placed at the back. The fourth follows a gentle slope downhill towards the sea and is crossed at regular intervals by the step-like stone walls of the former banana plantation. There are two greens, one directly in front with the sea beyond and the other closer to the tee on the right.
Golf las Americas
Golf las Américas is situated in the Heart of Playa de Las Américas, one of the most important tourist centres in the South of Tenerife and only 10kms from the International Airport. The course is noted for is excellent maintenance and its professionalism.
Having hosted International tournaments (Amateur & Professional) Golf Las Américas offers its clients ideal conditions with an average year round temperature of 23º - 25º C to play golf. Golf Las Américas is a championship 18 hole par 72 course with an overall length of 6.051 meters (6.617 yards) with lakes and rivers meandering throughout the course.
Golf del Sur
Golf del Sur is located extremely close to Tenerife's Southern airport, and has a terrific coastal situation. The complex boasts three different nine hole courses, each one named individually, which together make up distinct and interesting combinations for a terrific round of golf.
Tecina
Tecina Golf Course, located on the island of La Gomera, was designed by Donald Steel. The course has spectacular views of the Tecina valley and the Atlantic Ocean with the majestic Mount Teide in the distance. You must ddrive over the Tapahuga ravine for a tough par three on the 169-metre 4th, while the 337-metre 10th has the tee positioned 45 metres above the level of the green, offering players an unforgetable panorama of the Lomada de Tecina with the Atlantic as a backdrop. There are no buildings of any kind on the course.
Amarilla Golf
Amarilla Golf Course situated on the southern coast is set over a variety of terrains and offers an enjoyable and challenging round for all level of golfer.
There are some incredible views of Mount Tiede and the Atlantic Ocean, with many balls lost to the sea on the 4th and 5th holes with the fairway becoming a cliff edge.
This course offers golfers of all levels a very attractive round with the variety of holes, beautiful flora and magnificent setting.
The location of this course makes it easy for all visitors to Tenerife enjoy a round.
If you are visiting this area of Tenerife this course is a must for many reasons not just at the club house for an enjoyable 19th.
Portugal
Palmares
Palmares Golf Course is the oldest course in the area and combines links style golf on the first nine and a back nine more woodland style with groves of almonds and fig trees and more undulating.
The course has a prestigious reputation and blends the contrasting landscape of the two nines into an interesting and challenging course with very changeable holes.
Palmares has a fantastic location with views over the Bay of Lagos and The Monchique Mountains.
It is a course of great scenic beauty which can be truly appreciated from the comfort of the clubhouse which offers a fantastic panoramic view over a 25km stretch of Atlantic coastline.
Boa Vista
Boavista Golf Course, over looking Lagos, is a challenging newish course (2002) which has already established itself as one of the best in the area.
Boavista is beautifully integrated into the natural terrain and uses these features, including water hazards and strategically placed bunkers to make interesting and challenging holes.
This championship course is well maintained and has some stunning scenic views including the Atlantic Ocean, and is enjoyable for all playing abilities.
Parque da Floresta
Parque da Floresta Golf Course is a beautiful course crafted through the valleys and hills of the area offering an enjoyable and challenging round of golf.
Parque da Floresta is the most Westerly Algarve course close to the historic city of Lagos and its designer Pepe Cancedo has followed his philosophy of constructing a course using miniumal changes to the terrain. (similar to Torrequebrada in Spain).
The course is surrounded by vineyards, eucalyptus covered ravines and citrus bushes and has lakes and creeks to add to the views.
With widely varied holes offers this course is a beautiful challenge.
The last hole ends in an amphitheatre beneath a typical Portuguese clubhouse from where spectacular panoramic views over both the mountains, sea and eleven of the courses holes can be enjoyed.
Salgados
Salgados Golf Course is situated on this uncharacteristically flat coastland and water is a permanent hazard on nearly every hole.
Salgados is a links style course set in the tradition of the Florida wetlands, with the area being a bird sanctuary home to many species.
The golf course is very compact and accuracy and club selection are most important to master this fantastic course.
Quinta da Lago North & South
Quinta do Lago Golf Course has two Courses The North and The South which offer some great golfing challenges in the beautiful Ria Formosa nature reserve.
Quinta do Lago North is an anti clockwise course that favours golfers that draw the ball due to the different architects involved has very different styled holes.
The course is in good condition all year round due to the combination of grass involved and the greens have fast and regular surfaces.
Quinta Do Lago South has hosted the Portuguese Open several times and its reputation as one of Europes finest courses is well deserved.
The gentle undulating terrain with lakes and bunkers and large fast greens make this course a very enjoyable experience for golfers of all levels.
Pinhal
Vilamoura Pinhal Golf Course originally designed by Frank Pennick in 1976 but was later remodeled by Robert Trent Jones Jnr is a most enjoyable course.
The front nine goes through an exclusive residential area with some amazing villas to be seen.
The second nine is more undulating and open, although most fairways are lined with pine trees.
Although the fairways are wider and more forgiving than the other Vilamoura courses the greens are smaller, tight and fast so accuracy is still the key to success.
Faldo
With strategic play in mind, the course asks for careful positioning to score well. Rocky areas, meandering watercourses, good views to the distant mountains of Monchique, orange groves, all of these give the course its own character.
The course first hole is a testing uphill, Par-4, offering a number of 'risk and reward' opportunities. The downhill, Par-5, hole 4, encounters a meandering watercourse, which comes into play on three of the front 9 holes and two of the inward play. The inward 9 holes include several which will become the talking point of the '19th hole cognoscenti'. Mastering the massive Par-5 hole 13th which has a descending fairway, which when the wind is behind the player, will demand consistent shot making all the way to the hole. holes 14 and 15 continue to challenge the golfer, sometimes playing amongst rocky outcrops. After leaving the high ground to the west, the 18th brings the game to a close with a magnificent Par-5.
Vale Da Pinta
Vale da Pinta Golf Course takes full advantage of the landscapes natural valleys and undulating land and provides an enjoyable and true test of golf.
Vale da Pinta is set among olive, fig and almond trees lining and protecting the fairways. The greens are large but well protected by strategically placed bunkers.
With its five different tee positions this course is attractive, scenic and enjoyed whatever your playing ability.
Gramachio
Gramacho Golf Course has been an 18 hole course since 2002 and like Vale da Pinta it is a great course in some beautiful countryside. Gramacho has narrow fairways on undulating land which demands careful play on some testing holes. With the tactically positioned bunkers and the continued tree planting correct clubbing is important.
Pine Cliffs
As the name of the course indicates this popular nine-hole course located in pine trees on the cliff top to the east of Albufeira and managed by the Hotel Sheraton. The ninth hole is nicknamed the "Devil's Parlor". The most challenging hole of the course it asks for a drive over a shallow ravine. To console the players who fail in their shot there are attractive views down on the beach below. Although it is really an undemanding course for the average player it attracts return visitors due to its general charm.
Morgado
Morgado Golf Course is situated close to Alvor and is a relatively new course with breathtaking views and suited to players of all levels.
Morgado is set in a valley basin of the Monchique mountains with its undulating greens well protect by impressive bunkers.
Putting is important to score well but accurate approach shots are also necessary.
This is a quieter course in a quieter area and has many short but interesting holes that can be most enjoyable.
Alto Golf
Alto Golf Course is designed for golfers of all levels by Sir Henry Cotton whose belief was a course should test the low handicaps but still be enjoyed by all golfers.
Alto runs through two valleys offering winding fairways, undulating greens and scenic views of Lagos bay and the surrounding mountains.
It also has the "Henry Cotton Challenge".
The 16th hole at 604m has been given the name `The Giant´ and is one of the longest hole in Europe, and you can apply for an official attempt to score a birdie.
Penina
Penina Golf Course is Known as Henry Cotton`s masterpiece and is a flat parkland course which has hosted the Portuguese Open on several occasions.
Sir Henry Cotton, the three-times winner of the British Open, who later became an architect of golf courses, was one of the first to recognise the Algarve's huge potential as a golfing destination.
The quality and success of this course was to encourage the building of many other courses in the region.
Although built in 1966 it went through a complete renovation in 1995.
This parkland type course, with it`s many bunkers, almost four hundred thousand trees, several lakes, spacious greens and a vast tee area, is a real championship course which tests every golfers shot making ability.
Pinheirious Altos
Pinheiros Altos Golf Course is bordered by the Rio Formosa nature reserve and is a beautifully designed course with very distinct contrast between the front and back holes.
Pinheiros Altos front nine are built on rolling sandy terrain surrounded by the local pine trees and the back nine on more gentle hills has water coming into play on nearly every hole.
This is an excellent and quite an exclusive course with a very large practice area which is a pre-season favourite with many top professional golfers attracted to its bunker and chipping areas and numerous practice greens.
Vale da Milo
Located just on the outskirts of the fishing village of Carvoeiro it is a comfortable par-3 nine hole course. This is an ideal course for any beginner as it is only 926 metres in length and at the same time a good place to practice the short game with its water hazards, bunkers and variable greens. When reaching the end of the second hole a player has been shown what to expect from the remaining 7 holes.
Vila Sol
The architect of the course has been careful to maintain the original topographical nature of this spacious undulating terrain. Any changes that originally made were kept to the minimum when necessary in order to preserve the natural environmental state of the land. The first nine holes are quite demanding for the golfer. Starting with a par-4 of 381 metres, then followed be an even longer par-4 hole, only to be followed by another par-4 of 385 metres. Not content with this challenge there is now the sixth and eighth holes, both par-5s with each a little under 500 metres. The homeward nine seems slightly easier with two par-3 holes that are very attractively designed. The golfer should beware of the par-5 on the fourteenth as it is particularly difficult to achieve par with a tricky green awaiting the player.
Vale da Lobo Ocean
Vale do Lobo Golf Course has two courses, The Ocean course is the original and The Royal is the newest, and both offer quality golf with spectacular views.
Vale do Lobo Ocean is one of the best in the Algarve and has an excellent layout well manicured and offers a challenge.
The course meanders through a pine forest before arriving at the ocean holes which offer amazing scenery but can be very difficult on a windy day.
The Royal course is the more difficult course, with the terrain more undulating more water hazards and sand traps and its holes are generally longer.
It has some spectacular holes, amongst these is the impressive 16th with its tee shot over two ravines, typical of this challenging and scenic course.
Spain
La Cala North
La Cala North, also called the Americas Course, is a championship layout and a real challenge from the back tees, however, its wide fairways and varied tee positions make it pleasant for all levels of golfers. Some of the greens are elevated thus the placing of the approach shot must be precise.
La Cala South
La Cala South, also called the Asia course, is in a spectacular setting and is challenging to all levels of golfers, rewarding accuracy rather than power.
La Cala Europa
Europa is the most recent course and a lot of attention was paid to protecting the native plants, no trees were removed and only one was transplanted.
The Ojen River plays a part on eight of the holes cutting across three. It has generous fairways and the greens are slightly bigger than the other two courses thus easier for the average golfer.
Alhaurin
Alhaurin Golf Course is a beautiful course, set in and around the mountains, designed by Seve Ballesteros to be challenging.
It not only provides a test of your golf but some amazing views.
Alhaurin's main course (there is also a nine hole par 3 course and a junior 18 holes) can be an extremely challenging course testing accuracy on all occasions.
The course is very hilly, with lush green fairways following the natural contours of the Sierra de Mijas, wild growing rough, bunkers and water hazards are strategically placed.
While playing, it is hard not to notice the majestic views of the mountains to the North, and of Africa across the Mediterranean to the South.
Alhaurin Golf & Country Club is 15km inland from Fuengirola and the complex boasts of it being a relaxing tranquil retreat.
The new clubhouse peacefully overlooks the first and last hole and is set apart from the equestrian centre and the excellent 4 star hotel.
Mijas Olivios
Los Olivos is shorter, tighter with the undulating fairways lined by olive trees. It provides an enjoyable round with its par 5´s and par 3´s offering an interesting variety.
The greens are generally large and so are the twisting bunkers around them.
Mijas Golf has a typical Andulucian style clubhouse with restaurant, bar and a beautiful vine covered patio area, perfect for after your round.
