Majorca 2011
Well, before you know it, the Rebel Tour 2011 has come & gone in the blink of an eye.
We have had a great week with some good & some not so good stories, but overall we had a cracking time.
The sun was shining as we stepped out of Palma airport & it stayed that way until we boarded the plane for the flight home.
Son Vida
The first match, The Rebel Tour Ryder Cup, saw Pauls team turn out bottle green & Kev's boys sporting a rather fetching gold number. They taunted us saying that we all looked like kitchen dusters but they had the last laugh by thrashing us 9 ½ to 4 ½ . Paul even coming in on the last few holes to clinch the point from Kev.
Needless to say, they all sported lovely winners medals for the evening & the losers had to wear jesters hats with bloody bell's on as a penance. And I purchased the damn things. Anyway, a great evening of joviality & banter continued into the early hours & the rivalry was soon forgotten!
Son Quint
We arrived to see a beautiful golf course stretching out before us, although some had a job to focus after the night before. Copious quantities of coffee & orange juice were consumed prior to the match & it was eventually decided that we should play off of the match tee's. What a mistake!! It was a monster anyway without adding a few hundred yards. All of the lads enjoyed it & we had a few surprises in the scoring setting up the first match day results.

Our first hole in one ever, was on the third & went to a tour virgin, Mark Page, who scored 5 points. He finished with 23 & was chuffed to bits. Mind you, his wallet suffered heavily as the lads were back on the pop by then!
Son Muntaner.
Again, another beautiful golf course with some stunning views. All the lads had a day at leisure & they were all fired up & ready to go again. After a shaky dog leg start and several balls OB, we were off & running.

What an absolute beauty. A narrow uphill start which didn't allow much margin for error. The starter amused himself by saying "Adios" "Bon Voyage" & "That's a gonna!" As several balls disappeared into the scrub! This course twisted & turned like a snake & poor old Bobby Lawrence was thrown into a tailspin with all of the elevated tee's.
1st | Ian Parnell | 34 |
2nd | Kev Hardy | 32 |
3rd | Paul Temple | 30 |
To see all of the final placing please see the leader board.
Nick Vannozzi Memorial Shield
This was played for over the three competition days & was the best accumulative stable ford scores on all of the par 3's. It was in commemoration of one of the Rebel Tour members who unfortunately passed away in April & seemed to be the Trophy that everyone wanted to win.
A surprise to all of us came with this trophy.
The winner of the Nick Vannozzi Memorial Shield
Bobby Fountain | 24 |
Well done Bob & well deserved!
The Shield is on display in The Joiners Arms in Bloxham if you would like to view it.
The Golden Stylus ( Mark Page) our only "Hole in One" member so far, is the proprietor & if you visit he may even give you a bit of discount?
Well done to each & every one of you that took part & I hope that you all enjoyed it.
As Ian Parnell was rumoured to say as we got on the plane going out to Mallorca "Do you realise, it's only 364 days til next years tour ! I can't wait & I'm so excited!!)
Til next year, the big one OH!

Tuesday 11th October - Son Vida 10.00am
The Rebel Tour Ryder Cup - Bring it on!!
Son Vida is the oldest course on the island, and meanders through the hills that overlook Palma. It's quite tight off the tee, generally opening up into broader fairways. This course is known for its sweeping doglegs and its dramatic par 5 closing hole where a second shot over water appeals to all but the cautious.
Wednesday 12th October - Son Quint 10.00am
This is an undulating and challenging course featuring old pine trees and knotty olive trees. Various holes offer marvellous views over the bay of Palma. The large, contoured greens offer numerous pin positions, whilst the undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and two large lakes ensure this course is an enjoyable challenge for all standards of golfers.
Thursday 13th October - Day of leisure & who can hold their breath longest in the pool.
Day of hangover relief, or sightseeing and buying the missus a present.
Friday 14th October - Son Muntaner 10.00am
The Vannozzi Memorial Trophy
This is a new event that has been introduced to remember our great friend & golfing buddy that sadly passed way in April this year.
Son Muntaner opened in May 2000 as a tougher and longer companion to its sister course, Son Vida. From the first hole you are confronted by difficult approach shots over water to bunkered greens. A slithering lake runs the length of the second and third holes, testing your accuracy on each shot.
Saturday 15th October - Andratx 10.00am
This course is one of the islands most challenging, and has one of the longest holes in Europe. It has some stunning views easily appreciated from several raised tees. Due to the hilly terrain buggies are compulsory and are included in the green fee price.
All transportation is included to & from the courses
Sunday 16th October - Sunbathing & relax & reflect on what might have been. Enjoy
Hope that you can all make it on this tour.
